This is the most "extreme" category - and a lot of fun!
In this type of project the only rule is "There are no rules!"

This sample is quite extreme, but it can be summarized simply. If something didn't contribute, it was removed. That was most of the original photo!
There was quite a bit of reconstruction done where removed elements overlaid the 'keepers'. Other than that, things were copied, moved, and even resized to enhance the overall composition.
This sample is simpler. The original photo captured the softness of the scene and the feeling of impending snow.
Cropping, removing the branch from the foreground, and a few minor adjustments were all that were needed.
This example is more involved again.
This photo is somewhat of a rarity. Shot on color film, it is a true black-and-white picture. This means that when scanned the red, green, and blue components were identical. Soft light and thick fog can do that!
'Layers' allow work on a copy of the picture, or a portion of it, without affecting anything else.
Putting together several layers with different characteristics allowed creation of this surreal scene.
Here the foregound has been sharpened and darkened to create a strong silhouette. The background has been replaced with a sunrise created in the computer for this image.
